Today I finished watching the whole set of the teleplay named “Living in Small” at noon. When I was listening to the final theme song, my heart was kind of stirred and could not calm down. I have watched numerous teleplays in the past, but none of them can compare with this one, which can depict my life so vivid and profound. It can make you cry, laugh, ache and feel touched. All aspects of life in metropolis are fully showcased in the program, which leaves the audience more room to meditate ad reflect on themselves.
The first impressive event in the play is the house-buying event for Su Chun and Haiping. They both graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai. In the beginning after their graduation, they resolved to roost themselves in Jiangzhou metropolis and was expecting a promising future and a splendid blueprint in their mind. However, reality was so cruel that could shatter their dream thoroughly. The couples earned a living of 9000 RMB every year that could only allow them to rent a small room in the city. Though Haiping did not yield to the fate and kept struggling with it, she had to accept constantly disappointment that reality gave her. She was reluctant to live with the illiterates but had to live with them in the same building, having words with them every day. After coming back home and seeing the satisfactory-with-the-present husband, she could not help losing temper and quarrelling with him, even claiming that she regretted marrying him. But later, when her husband was arrested by police due to certain mistakes in work, she was more anxious than anyone in the world and was afraid that her husband would be put into jail, hardly eating and falling into sleep. When she saw her husband set free later, she was happy to death. It can greatly indicate her deep love towards her husband. Actually in our real lives, the similar case happens again and again. Maybe in your life, some people may say something that seems disturbing to you, but when you come across some troubles, they may feel extremely concerned, and only they will stay with you and help you out through hardships. They may be your lover, your families or your friends. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Only these people deserve your life-long cherishing.
Another piteous character in the play is Haizhao. She was initially a pure and innocent graduate, but was later eroded by the life in metropolis, and finally became a lover of Song Siming, a government official who had got married. She was ignorant of the potential danger of her deeds, and was totally addicted to the life she was living. Needless to say, Song Siming loved her deeply, but he could not give her real happiness, for he could not divorce his wife due to either what he had owned her or his political career. What he could give Haizhao was life of abundant materials. He had to render her live in a grand house lonely. Later, Haizhao was pregnant and determined stupidly to keep the baby for Song Siming. Then Song’s wife came to find her for money problems and had a fight with her, during which Haizhao fell on the ground and aborted. She could never get pregnant in her life since then. Song Siming was later supervised by the police due to his corruption and embezzlement and died due to car accident.
As a matter of fact, Haizhao is only a typical example in our society. Many women ended up with the same fate like Haizhao. In this material-focused society, it is vitally important to learn how to resist the temptation of material and money and stick to the bottom line of our morality and principle. Every of us should know what we must do and what we must not, like being a lover of someone married should always be prohibited. As a woman, once you fall in love with someone married, no matter how much the man loves you, you are doomed to end up with tragedy. Just as Haiping said in the play, some women relied on their physical beauty and caught a wealthy man, saving decades of struggling to climb to the position they wanted ahead of others. Nevertheless, the higher you climb, the chilly you will feel. After all, you get what you want not by your own ability and industrial work. Even if you could own the good position for your whole life, you would feel uncomfortable at heart, for it was gained at great cost, which means you have lost something precious in your life. If unfortunately you finally lose your position, you can never recover. At that time, you only lose your fame and benefits, but also lose your precious love and happiness, just like Haizhao in the play. Not only do women need to be cautious, but also man should be. Once you get success, do not be arrogant and forget your position. Whatever you do, you should set a limit and leave a way out for yourself. Do not wait to retreat until your enemies are before your gate. When you are doing something bad, the more people you involve, the more danger you will face. Once a person fails ,the whole group will follow. The dam of thousands of miles will collapse due to tiny ant caves. One wrong step may lead to your total failure. The previous experience can teach us a big lesson!
Of course there are some points where we may feel not satisfied. For instance, when Mr Sun was investigating Mr Song, what Sun said to him may render us feel some inherent limitations in the plots. The play dares not totally reveal the truth about our society, which seems a pity for us. But on the whole, I think the teleplay has been acted wonderfully, because it does concern a lot of sensitive aspects of our society that other plays dare not touch. When watching this program, I have a real sense that our society is progressing and our sense of democracy has been increasing!
